When you come into our office, we’ll begin by greeting you and accepting your paperwork. From there, you'll go on to meet our friendly chiropractic staff and our very own Dr. G. Forrest Edwards. We will take some time to get to know you and your reasons for coming into the office. During this time, we'll also discuss your health concerns as well as your medical history.
Next, it's on to your chiropractic examination, which will involve:
Testing of your reflexes and flexibility
Neurological, orthopedic, and postural screenings
Physical tests
X-rays, if needed
Before we perform any tests or procedures, we'll be sure that you fully understand what to expect and we will not perform anything without your explicit consent.
Once we have reached our findings, we'll begin putting together your customized treatment plan. This may include anything from spinal adjustments or physical therapy to soft tissue massage or other treatments. We may also make recommendations for at-home lifestyle changes including nutrition and exercise that will aid you in reaching your optimal level of health and wellness.
If you have any questions or concerns before your appointment, don't hesitate to call Hoover Health & Wellness Center, Inc.
New Patients must call to schedule the first appointment.
As you begin your customized treatment plan, it’s important to understand that restoring your body to optimal health and wellness is a process. Each phase in that process is important and our goal in each treatment plan is to resolve pain, heal injuries and restore wellness.
Phase 1 - Relief from Pain
As with many of our patients, you may seek chiropractic care because you are in pain. Relieving outward symptoms such as pain and discomfort is our primary focus when care begins. Effective treatment may require 2-3 visits per week, or even daily visits initially. Although relief from pain is liberating, it is not an effective indicator that you have been healed from the initial condition which may have caused or contributed to your pain. It is important to continue with your treatment plan even after pain has been relieved so that the underlying disease or condition can be fully addressed and resolved.
Phase 2 - Restorative Care
With continued treatment, Dr. Edwards can fully address the underlying cause of your symptoms and help to prevent a recurrence of your pain and symptoms. We refer to this phase of your care as the restorative phase and visits to the clinic with chiropractic adjustments are typically not as frequent. It is during this phase that exercises and stretches begin to play an important role in the healing process. You will learn how to perform these exercises at the clinic under our supervision and continue them at home.
Mild flare-ups, or brief recurrences of symptoms can occur during this phase and are normal. Your body is still in the process of healing. The restorative phase of your treatment can last from a few months to a couple of years, depending on your condition or injury.
Phase 3 - Maintenance
Once you have fully healed, routine chiropractic care with Dr. Edwards will help ensure the strength and flexibility of your musculoskeletal system and overall health of your body. As part of your customized treatment plan, Dr. Edwards will provide the recommended frequency of further routine visits for your individual circumstances. Continuing to follow a good nutrition plan will also aid the body in maintaining good health. We will provide ongoing support and education for your new, healthy lifestyle at Hoover Health & Wellness Center, Inc.
